Once an important centre of medieval England, Reading is now a town which boasts a strong commercial sector and a vibrant culture and nightlife. The town is home to the Reading Beer Festival, an annual event which has now become one of the biggest beer festivals in the country. As well as a world class University and Reading Football Club, the town is probably most famous as the home of the Reading Festival, one of the country’s biggest and longest running music festivals. In addition to a lively nightlife, Reading offers The Hexagon theatre, two casinos and two multi-screen cinemas. With a good array of hotels and restaurants and bars, Reading is a top destination for a relaxing short break.
And what kind of holiday would be complete without a spot of retail therapy? Reading town centre is the major epicenter for shoppers in the town. The main shopping street is Broad Street, which runs between The Oracle in the east to the Broadstreet Mall in the east, with the whole area being pedestrianized. The Oracle is one of two large shopping centres in the town, alongside the Broadstreet Mall which house such high street favourites as TK Maxx and Argos as well as bargain favourites such as The Pound Shop.
