Lidl, all the offers at your fingertips

With countless stores scattered across Europe and USA, Lidl’s reputation is also boosted by its commitment to support local where possible. Thus, you can be sure that at least two-thirds of Lidl products are proudly British.

About Lidl

Forming part of the Schwarz Group (which also manages another successful hypermarket chain, Kaufland), Lidl’s company mission is “to enhance the lives of our customers, by providing quality products at market leading value, whilst ensuring that customer satisfaction is at the heart of everything we do”.

To take advantage of Lidl’s newest discounts, updated store times, and the latest Lidl Plus products, be sure to see their online catalogues and brochures.

The history of Lidl

It was in 1932 that Josef Schwarz was promoted to partner in Südfrüchte Großhandlung Lidl & Co. Working at a fruit wholesaler, Josef successfully managed to transform the business into a general food wholesaler. But the Lidl story only kicks off in the 1970s, when Josef’s son, Dieter Schwarz, started focusing on discount markets and large supermarkets. Not agreeing with the name Schwarz-Markt (which means "black market" in German), Dieter preferred to use the name of his father’s former business partner, A. Lidl. But when the law prevented Dieter from using Lidl’s name for his discount stores, he came up with another plan: buy the rights to use the name of Ludwig Lidl, a painter and retired schoolteacher for 1,000 German marks!

That said and done, the first Lidl store opened in Germany in 1973. Costs were cut by keeping the retail outlets as small as possible and only 4 years later the Lidl brand operated 33 discount stores.

The first British Lidl products were finally sold in November 1994, when the first 10 UK stores opened across the country.

Tiendeo might be your one-stop shop for Lidl’s latest product promotions (whether it’s for garden furniture, baby food, or otherwise), but the Lidl website has various customer perks in store as well.

Like Lidl Plus, the rewards app that lets you save even more with weekly coupons, competition- and prize info, a digital storage of all your Lidl receipts, and much more.

Or the Lidl Recipe section where you can get updated, mouth-watering recipes that you can easily whip up with Lidl ingredients. Browse the recipes via course or collection (including Vegan, Snacks & Treats, Dinner Time, and more) and even polish your cooking skills with Lidl's online Cooking Tips.

And thanks to their online Store Finder, finding the closest Lidl in your region (plus its opening times) is literally as easy as typing in your post code or city.
