Argos is one of the UK’s largest high-street retailers and in the Argos catalogue you will find a wide range of items for sale in stores, online, through the app or over the telephone.
When most people think of Argos, they think of the Argos catalogue. The Argos shopping experience is unique, because rather that displaying all items for sale in-store, customers shop by looking up their item in the catalogue. This has all changed recently of course, as the paper catalogues have been replaced with digital catalogues and customers can choose whether to shop through the Argos online store or at their local shop. Argos stores tend to be located in town centre locations or out-of-town shopping parks. Although most items are stored in an adjacent warehouse, certain product ranges such jewellery and electronics are often displayed on the shop floor. As well as stocking a wide range of items including TVs, tents and the famously fun Argos toys range, Argos owns a number of brands including Bush, Cookworks and Chad Valley.
History of Argos
Argos was founded by Richard Tompkins in 1973. After a number of mergers and acquisitions over the years it became part of the Home Retail Group in 2006. Today, the company operates 750 stores in the UK and Ireland. Argos TV was launched in 2011 but was closed down in 2013 in order to concentrate resources in other areas. The Argos online website currently gains 800 million visits a year and in 2013 it was calculated that approximately 96% of the UK population were within 10 miles of an Argos store. In April 2016, Argos was sold to supermarket chain Sainsbury’s for £1.4 billion.
Signing up to Argos emails is a great way to stay in the loop, and from time-to-time you will receive exclusive Argos discount codes. Check out the latest Argos clearance by clicking on the button located at the top of the online store homepage. If you are frequent shopper, it might be worth considering the Argos card, which lets you ‘buy now, pay later’ and can be used online, in-store, via the app or over the phone. Also, on the website and app you can check product availability at your local store as well as other details, such as current Argos opening times and click and collect services.
