Iceland, all the offers at your fingertips

As a UK retailer focused on frozen foods and grocery goods, Iceland Foods continues to impress with not only its first-rate products, but also its commitment to innovation and customer convenience.

About Iceland

Shopping for groceries consists of much more than simply choosing your favourite products. And that is where Iceland aims to make a difference via its convenient offer to all customers, combining:
• Top-notch quality frozen foods that are not only easy to prepare, but is made with minimal waste
• Numerous supermarket branches with easy-to-shop layouts and products
• Free home delivery for any in-store purchase exceeding £25
• The best online shopping service in the UK.

The history of Iceland

Malcolm Walker and Peter Hinchcliffe opened the first Iceland Foods shop in Oswestry, Shropshire in 1970. With an emphasis on frozen foods, the store was a success with consumers and had expanded to 15 shops (in North Wales and the North West) by 1975. Two years later the business started selling own-labelled packaged food, which only boosted the company’s positive reputation and number of supermarket stores.

But Iceland Foods would only go public in 1984 – two years after becoming the UK’s first supermarket to eliminate artificial colourings, flavourings and non-essential preservatives from its own branded products.

As more Iceland stores popped up in and outside the UK, the brand continued offering more and more customer perks – including its unique free home-delivery services in 1997, an online shopping hub dedicated to boosting the brand’s online services, and more.

Throughout the years, Iceland Foods’ commitment to a healthier environment has also become apparent. After all, Iceland became the first plastic bag-free supermarket in the UK in 2019.

Iceland Foods celebrated its 50th anniversary as Britain’s leading food retailer on 18 November 2020.
